Police ID man who drowned off Fire Island

Ryan Risco, 26, of Peekskill, was reported missing about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday when a friend called to say he had disappeared in the water.His body washed up midmorning near the Fire Island beach.The discovery capped an intensive search that covered more than 21 square nautical miles, despite winds of between 15 and 18 knots and seas of 4- to 6-feet.After the 911 call, a helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Fire Island were dispatched to the scene, officials said.Risco was an actor who performed in many musicals, a die-hard Yankees fan and an honorary "Ghostbuster," according to an online obituary posted by the E.O. Curry Funeral Home Inc. in Peekskill.A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Assumption, 131 Union Ave., Peekskill.

Margaret 'Peggy' M. Pataki, mother of former Governor George E Pataki, passed away peacefully in her sleep April 3, 2017 at her family homestead in Garrison. Peggy lived most of her life in Peekskill on the Pataki family farm. She was 101 years old. Mrs. Pataki was born on December 7, 1915 in New York City, daughter of Matteo Lagana of Calabria, Italy and Agnes Lynch of Louth, Ireland. Her childhood was spent in Manhattan, and her teenage years in Peekskill and Setauket, NY. She moved with her family to Peekskill where in 1938, she married Louis Pataki, the former Peekskill assistant postmaster, who predeceased her on March 23, 1996. She was a member of the Women's Club of Peekskill-Cortlandt, a director of the Irish Hunger Memorial, and a Good-Will Ambassador for the New York State Commission on Aging as well as numerous other committees. She was an avid bridge player; and she enjoyed seeing and greeting friends at the family farm. Peggy is survived by her two sons: Governor George E. Pataki and his wife Libby of Garrison and Professor Louis P. Pataki Jr., and his wife Jane of Norwalk, CT. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Jonathan Pataki, Emily Pataki-Hamburger, Daisy Pataki-Rood, Teddy Pataki, Allison Pataki-Levy and Owen Pataki; She also had ten great-grandchildren. Her brother and two sisters predeceased her. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 8th from 7-9pm and Sunday, April 9th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, Peekskill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10am, Monday, April 10th at The Church of the Assumption in Peekskill, followed by interment at the Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
